During my test and discussion class at kottayam, a teacher from one of the medical colleges in Trisshur recounted this incident of an apprehensive 1st year Surgery PGT who was asked to monitor the pulse rate of a serious patient in the ward by his superior. He apparently couldnt quite get the order, as he mistook it as per rectal examination for any bleeding episode (as the patient had melaena too). The whole confusion was becos of the abbrev. 'PR' whuch can mean both! As a result, he ended up checking his rectum whole day in the ward, every 15 mins. The superior when he came to know, he seemed to be more amused than annoyed aout the whole ordeal.
